About the Muskegon County Fair
For 98 years, the Muskegon County Fair has brought together families, farmers, exhibitors, businesses, and community members to celebrate the traditions, talents, and agricultural heritage of Muskegon County.
Since its beginnings in 1928, the fair has served as a gathering place where neighbors connect, youth showcase their accomplishments, and visitors experience the best of rural and community life. What started as a celebration of local agriculture has grown into one of West Michigan's most cherished annual traditions while remaining true to its roots.
For much of its history, the Muskegon County Fair was held at the historic Ravenna Fairgrounds, located on the east side of Ravenna near what is now the Ravenna school complex. For decades, the fairgrounds were home to the county's agricultural exhibits, livestock competitions, community gatherings, and midway attractions. Generations of Muskegon County families attended fairs there, creating memories that helped establish the event as a cherished community tradition.
Around 1983, the fair entered a new chapter when it relocated to its current home in Sullivan Township. The 160 acre property has provided opportunities for growth while preserving the agricultural mission and community spirit that have defined the fair since its founding. Today, the Muskegon County Fairgrounds continue to serve as a gathering place where agriculture, education, entertainment, and community come together.
Each year, youth exhibitors participate through 4-H, FFA, and independent clubs, displaying livestock, agricultural exhibits, creative arts, baked goods, crafts, and countless other accomplishments. These exhibits reflect the fair's longstanding commitment to education, leadership development, and preserving the agricultural traditions that helped build Muskegon County.
Over the decades, the fair has evolved to offer something for everyone. Visitors enjoy grandstand entertainment, family activities, educational exhibits, contests, vendors, fair food, and special events, while agriculture remains at the heart of the fair experience.
The Muskegon County Fair is more than a summer event—it is a living tradition that reflects the values that built our community: hard work, stewardship, volunteerism, learning, and community pride. For nearly a century, generations of families have made memories at the fairgrounds, whether exhibiting animals, competing in contests, volunteering their time, or simply spending a day with family and friends.
As we celebrate our 98th year in 2026, we honor the volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors, fair board members, and community supporters whose dedication has kept this tradition alive for nearly a century. Their commitment ensures that future generations will continue to experience the excitement, education, and sense of community that make the Muskegon County Fair so special.
