Poultry
Poultry isn't just for chicken dinners! Chickens, turkeys, ducks, and geese are all-stars of agriculture. They efficiently turn feed into protein-rich meat and eggs, making them a sustainable and nutritious food source. The poultry industry creates jobs, boosts economies, and offers global food security – all while being versatile, providing feathers and even fertilizer.
Chickens
For young exhibitors, chickens are a fantastic introduction to poultry showing. They're relatively easy to care for, come in a dazzling array of breeds, and can teach valuable lessons about responsibility and animal care. County fairs provide a platform to showcase these feathered friends, their unique characteristics, and the hard work invested in raising them.
Turkeys
Turkeys aren't just for Thanksgiving! These majestic birds can be exhibited at county fairs, offering a chance for young people to learn about heritage breeds and proper turkey care. Showing turkeys allows them to demonstrate their knowledge and passion for these impressive poultry giants, while contributing to the preservation of rare turkey breeds.
Ducks
Beyond their charming quack, ducks offer a world of variety for young exhibitors at county fairs. From the majestic Pekin to the comical Call Duck, these waterfowl present an opportunity to learn about different breeds, their unique needs, and responsible duck husbandry. County fairs allow young people to showcase their knowledge and passion for these fascinating feathered friends.
Geese
Geese, with their impressive size and watchful personalities, are another exciting poultry option for county fairs. Showing geese allows young exhibitors to learn about proper care for these intelligent birds and demonstrate their handling skills. County fairs provide a platform for them to showcase their geese, their knowledge, and their dedication to raising these remarkable farmyard companions.
Other poultry
Fair poultry showing also includes more exotic types of birds. Guinea hens, quail, pheasant, pigeons, and peacocks are all welcome.
